Town Close hosted a five team Indoor Hockey Tournament in the new sports hall at the weekend. The competition, which featured Under 13 boys from Culford, Beeston Hall, Gresham’s, Taverham Hall and Town Close was a close run thing with Town Close coming out on top in what turned out to be a tense finale.
After drawing their first match against a skilful Culford side 1-1, Town Close won their next 6-2 against Taverham Hall. Their third match was against Gresham’s, who had comfortably won their first two matches. In what turned out to be an excellent well fought match, Town Close triumphed 2-1.
In a tense deciding game against Beeston Hall, Town Close produced another solid display, winning 2-0 and securing the title.
This meant that last year’s winners, Gresham’s, had to settle for the runners up spot, with Culford coming third.
There were some fine individual performances on the day, most notably by goalkeeper Lyam Thorpe and captain William Hunt, but the success of the Town Close team was due to their team ethic.
Squad: Lyam Thorpe, Will Garson, Eddie Martin, James Hastings, Cameron Greenhall, Alex Levinson, Sam Paterson and captain William Hunt
