The Colts reached the final of the 2009 Framlingham Festival losing only to The Abbey. In their opening game against Norwich School they made a fantastic start and at the end of the first over, Norwich School were 4-3. Norwich School went on to make 51 from their 8 overs. Town Close reached the target with an over to spare having lost 3 wickets. Progressing to the semi-final, they played Widford Lodge who, from their 8 overs, managed a respectable total of 74. Town Close made a disappointing start and after 3 overs had only managed to score 10 runs. Some excellent batting following this slow start resulted in the scores being level with one ball remaining in the game and town Close managed to win by scoring from the final ball of the match. In the final, Town Close batted first and managed to score a pleasing 72 from their 8 overs. The Abbey reached the target with an over to spare despite an excllent all round effort by Town Close with the ball and in the field.

The 1st XI had a disappointing day at the Brandeston Festival. They played a strong Norwich School side in their opening game. Norwich School made 184 and Town Close could only manage 72 in reply. Despite always being ahead on run rate, Town Close were bowled out for 77 meaning that they played Taverham in their final game of the festival. Taverham made 68 and town Close managed to reach the target with only two balls to spare. Squad: A. Raffles (captain), W. Tomson (wicketkeeper), C. Youngs, G. Cooke, H. Crane, L. Gooderham, O. Colts Cricket Tour Of Kent
On Friday 15th May, the Colts A and B cricket teams embarked upon their short tour of Kent. Having rained over night and most of the morning we were all relieved to see blue sky and sunshine as we travelled to Holmwood House in Essex for the first of the matches.
The Colts A lost against a very strong Holmwood House side by 93 runs. Holmwood House scored 143-3 from their 25 overs with many of Town Close’s bowlers failing to bowl a full enough length. A disappointing start to their innings left Town Close on 4-2 and they eventually managed to get to a total of 50. The Colts B managed a slightly more competitive result with Holmwood House scoring 122-3 and Town Close scoring 90-8 in reply.
After the matches we continued on our journey south, via a McDonalds somewhere on the A12, and were made to feel even more lucky with the weather as we hit torrential rain at the Dartford Bridge which continued through much of the night and into Saturday morning. Fortunately, the rain cleared during breakfast and sunshine, coupled with a strong breeze, allowed ground conditions to improve rapidly.
On the Saturday afternoon, the Colts A playing against Kent College lost by 41 runs. Kent College scored 108 from 27 overs having been 34-6. Cameron Greenhall took 3-21. Town Close made 67 in reply. The Colts B enjoyed another competitive game. Batting first, Town Close made 87 with Kent College Junior School making 89-7.
I would like to commend the Colts A and B teams on the conduct both on and off the cricket field for the duration of the tour and I would also like to thank Mr Sowry and Mr Hall for their input during the time away.
