Rugby – U12 XV beat Wymondham College (h), Monday 23 November 2009
Town Close Under 12s put in a very good all round team performance to beat a larger, but more individual side, from Wymondham College.
Despite not training together regularly, the boys were committed right from the first whistle and the forwards determined rucking provided enough possession for Alex Levinson and William Hunt to score.
Wymondham powered over with a try just before half time, but after a brilliant piece of individual skill, Cameron Greenhall converted his own try and took the game out of reach of the visiting side.
Everyone was in contention for the man of the match, but William Garson just shaded it.

Rugby – Colts A and D v Barnardiston Hall (a), Wednesday 25 November 2009
The Colts A were only one try up with 5 minutes to go against a tough and physically strong Barnardiston Hall team. Camped in our ‘22’, our opponents appeared to have crossed the try line, but the score was not given. Town Close broke away to score two further tries before the final whistle, leaving a comfortable margin that did not reflect a very tight match.
Try scorers: Will Davies, Arran Dhesi and Nathan Sharpe
Result: Colts A won 19-0
The Colts D beat Barnardiston Hall B team comfortably, thanks to a Henry Mallinson hat-trick of tries and a great solo effort from Harry Blake-Baldry. Rugby – U9B vs Norwich School (h), Tuesday 24 November 2009
The U9B team brought in a number of Year 4 boys who had not played for the School before, and what a fantastic effort they all put in! In a closely-fought first half, Theo Hinton levelled the scores at one try each with an excellent individual run, only for Norwich School to move ahead with a try just before the interval. Two further scores in the second period rather flattered our visitors, with a final score of 4 tries to 1 in their favour. The U9B team should all be very proud of their efforts. A particular mention to Peter Russell, Adam Possener, Fitz Hornor, Raunaq Rai and Harry Ardern, who all enjoyed their first match representing Town Close. Well done to you all!
Result: U9B team lost by 4 tries to 1

Rugby – Colts A, B and C v Brandeston Hall (a), Wed 18 November 2009
Having lost 2 of the front row through illness, the Colts A were up against things in a tough, closely-fought contest against a useful Brandeston Hall team. Ben Dugdale put in the performance of the day for Mr Greenhall’s team, demonstrating some aggressive play in the contact areas of the game. The A team lost out in the end to two second-half tries.

The Colts B played against an enormous pack of Brandeston forwards, but managed to move the ball away from them and use the speed of our back line. Well done to the B team debutants, Joshua Parriss-Hind and Stuart MacGregor, who both played their part in this enjoyable win. Ben Carding scored two tries with some strong running, and also kicked all of the 7 conversions. Well done, B team.

Rugby – Colts C v Beeston Hall (a), Wednesday 11 November 2009
Town Close had to play a depleted Beeston side. Both sides agreed to play 9 a-side, with Town Close using a rolling substitute system. The first half went well with the Colts C scoring on three occasions and Sam Hardesty converting twice. The second half saw continued pressure from Town Close with a further 2 tries being scored. All the boys contributed well, especially as they also had to play out of position for chunks of the match.
Result: Colts C won 29 - 0

Rugby – Colts C v Norwich School (h), Friday 13 November 2009
This was an incredibly stern test for Town Close as they found themselves playing an U10 A side from Norwich School. In the first half Town Close struggled to get out of their own 22 as they were pinned back by an aggressive and well-drilled opposition team. After a great deal of resistance, Norwich scored 3 tries in 10 minutes to make the half time score 0 - 21.
The second half showed a far better performance from the Colts C. The boys kept far lower in the tackle, the best exponent of this was scrum half, James Hewett. Stuart MacGregor was the first to the ruck every time and our players showed far more belief. Town Close eventually got what they deserved with a try from James Hewett. Another try looked on the cards when Charles Grant-Parke made a 40m run, only to be held up 5m from the line. Norwich got a break- away try at the end scored by their man of the match. A valiant second-half performance should have made for a far closer score. A very good learning experience for the Colts C. Well done!
Result: Colts C lost 5-28

Rugby – Colts A and B v Norwich School (a), Friday 13 November 2009
The Colts A put up a courageous display against a strong and physical Norwich team. We could not get our game flowing as we did against Beeston Hall, but the players battled throughout and made Norwich work hard for their three tries.
Result: Colts A lost 0-17
A very hard-fought game between two evenly matched teams. Despite the wet weather, Town Close played with an adventurous spirit, moving the ball through lots of pairs of hands and recycling quick possession at the tackle. Norwich scored two tries in the first period through their strong running fly-half. This sparked TCH into a second half of determined play and outstanding team work, culminating in a close-range try from John Mackintosh. We pushed hard for another score but could not quite breach the Norwich defence.
Well done, boys – this was an excellent performance, and you should all be proud of your efforts.
Result: Colts B won 40-26

Rugby – U9 A and B vs Norwich School (a), Tuesday 10 November 2009
The U9A team had a very tough first half against strong opposition at Norwich School. Six tries were conceded before half time, with Town Close struggling to make any inroads into the opposition territory. The second half saw a great improvement in effort and commitment - George Southgate won the man-of-the-match award with some strong drives and courageous tackles. No further scores followed in the second period.
Result: U9A team lost by 6 tries to nil
The U9B team enjoyed a closely-fought encounter against an inexperienced Norwich side who, nevertheless, grew in confidence as the match progressed and made the Bs work very hard to win possession of the ball. Town Close opened the scoring with a try from wing Theo Hinton. This paved the way for further scores from George Harrad and a second try for Theo Hinton. Norwich fought back bravely in the second half, but tries from Daniel Hastings, Daniel Potter and Joshua Lim secured a comfortable victory. A very pleasing team effort.
Result: U9B team won by 6 tries to 3

Taverham Hall U9A again proved to be a powerful and skilful team, running in some excellent tries.
