ASC Year 7 Camping Trip

On Friday July 2nd, Mr. Parker, Mr. Coulthart and Mrs. Lewis Williams took 20 Year 7 children to Thetford forest for the annual ASC Year 7 Camping Trip. We left Town Close at the end of the school day, heading for the Scout camp site at Two Mile Bottom! Once there, the children set up camp, doing their best to erect  their tents without being overrun by ants!

We then cooked dinner on our tranjiers, which was pasta and vegetables in a tomato sauce. Surprisingly, it was quite tasty. The children then collected twigs from the surrounding area for the camp fire. Once we had a roaring fire, we roasted marshmallows and some jelly babies!

In the morning we drove to the Go Ape high wire course and were joined by several other members of staff. Everyone, even Mr. Coulthart, had a great time on Go Ape and Miss Goddard gave an expert performance on the zip wires.

The weather throughout the trip was fabulous and we arrived back at Town Close about 2 pm with everyone a little bit weary but having had a great time.

St. Piers School - Raised Flower Beds

On Friday June 25th Mr. And Mrs. Parker and three former pupils, Katie Amey, Victoria Taylor and Sydney Laing travelled to St Piers School in Surrey for the official opening of the raised flower beds in memory of Edward Arundell.

Edward and his three brothers, William, Gregory and Thomas were pupils at Town Close but Edward sadly passed away in September 2007, whilst at St. Piers School. Consequently, St. Piers, which is part of the National Centre for Children with Epilepsy, became the school charity in 2007-08 and Town Close House raised over £7000 throughout the academic year. It was a beautiful sunny day and the beds were full of colour, each one individually arranged by the children.

Bike or Boot!

Congratulations to Emily, Maria, Annabelle, Maddy and Matilda, who completed their sponsored bike and roller skate challenge! They completed 4.8 miles in about 50 minutes and raised approximately £300 for our school charity (EACH) East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.

EACH East Anglia's Children's Hospice

We were very happy to welcome Jessica Hiscocks, from EACH, to our Assembly earlier this month. She told us a lot about Quidenham Hospice and our children were very eager to ask her questions. We found out that there are only a few children there at a time, and that many varied activities were available for individuals and groups, depending on their needs. Round the clock nursing is paid for by government funding, but Town Close will be raising funds to provide a Care Assisitant, who will provide support to the nurses, patients and parents.

The School Council are working hard to select suitable fund raising schemes to achieve our aim and we welcome any suggestions that the Council could use.

Sponsored Run

Just before Easter Martha Craggs, Thomas Huckerby and Ben Dugdale completed a thirty minute sponsored run in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance. The children designed a sponsorship form which they filled with the names of friends and family who were willing to support them and after the event they performed the equally difficult task to collecting the cash! This in itself was a marathon effort as the sum raised was £338.33. Well done!

Sponsored Singing on the Beach!

During the half term break Lauren Reid-Edwards and Joanna Snook decided to raise money for the Air Ambulance Appeal, our selected School charity. With the help of Harry Snook the girls made two leaflets and nineteen posters to advertise their sponsored sing. They put them up all over the campsite in Wells and two days later they handed out more posters to people on the beach. The girls sang for an hour without stopping and raised £30.20. Well done!
