The SATIPS Quiz
Who is currently the British Home Secretary? Where in the body would you find a hammer? If you are struggling with these questions, spare a thought for some of our pupils; these were just two of the questions on the recent annual SATIPS General Knowledge Quiz. This national competition is open to all Prep schools and attracts thousands of entries. Town Close entered two teams of ten pupils, all keen to test their knowledge against the best young brains in the country and to tackle many tricky teasers such as the examples above.
Both teams performed highly creditably: The Senior team (Years 7 & 8) finished 20th in the country and the Junior team (Years 5 & 6) finished just outside the top ten.
Two pupils at Town Close submitted answers which placed them in the top twenty individual entries in the country. Thomas Osborn (Year 6) scored 71 out of 100, which was the 17th highest score in the Junior competition. Robert Laingchild (Year 8) scored 58 out of 100, which was the 12th highest score in the fiendishly difficult Senior competition. These magnificent achievements were rightly rewarded by the organisers with prizes in the form of gift vouchers. Both boys are pictured displaying their prizes proudly.
Congratulations to Robert, Thomas and all members of the successful teams!
For those still puzzling over the two questions at the beginning of this short article, the answers are ‘Theresa May’ and ‘it’s a small bone in the ear’.
