Parents and friends of the School were royally entertained when children from the Prep Department participated in a celebration of music and poetry. The event was held to celebrate National Poetry Day. The children in Years 3 to 6 had learned poems of their choice while Year 7 pupils had written their own ballads. The Year 8 pupils presented their own dramatic dialogues based on a series of paintings. Their starting point had been U A Fanthorpe’s poem ‘Not My Best Side’ which is itself based on the painting of St. George and the Dragon by Paolo Uccello. Interspersed among the recitations were accomplished solo and duet musical performances given by some of out year 8 musicians. Their items were played on a variety of instruments and represented a broad range of musical style. A thoroughly enjoyable evening, congratulations to all those who took part.
