Music
Welcome to our vibrant and exciting Music Department.
Music plays an important and significant part in the life of the school. All year groups, from the Nursery through to year 8, are taught by specialist staff, with singing fundamental to every pupil’s experience of music at Town Close. There are twelve visiting peripatetic staff who teach a wide range of orchestral instruments, keyboard and voice to well over 200 children throughout the school, including some in the Pre-Prep. We encourage all children to participate in the many musical activities on offer.
The School has a variety of choirs, an orchestra, several string ensembles, a wind band, flute choir, single reed band, brass group, percussion and guitar group. Informal and formal concerts are given throughout the year, with a major musical production every other year.
Every child in the Prep School is involved in our annual House Singing Festival and the choirs and ensembles take part in the Carol and End of Year services.
Many of our pupils are prepared for Associated Board Practical and Theory Examinations, and some go on to take Music Scholarships and Exhibitions to Senior Schools.
