The second half of the Autumn Term has seen the introduction of a Mathematics Club for children in Years 3 & 4. Focusing on board games, the club allows the subject to be applied in a relaxed way. Pictured are the children enjoying some of the games on offer.
Maths & Science Week
Maths & Science Week has again proved a great success with all the Prep Department children having a chance to take part in various activities with a Maths or Science theme but away from the normal classroom lesson. This year we had quizzes, a maths hunt, curve stitching, roamers, marble runs and a shop. I must add a well done to all the year 8 children who organised the Maths Shop so efficiently and a thank you to all the staff who helped make the week run so smoothly. Pictured below are the children in action.
Year 6 Inter-Schools Mathematics Quizzes
Four of our Year 6 pupils, Hamish MacGregor, Jamie Everson, Felix Laing and Cameron Magrath recently took part in two competitions. The first, at St Faith’s School, Cambridge involved 66 pairs of children split into two halves. The boys spent the afternoon performing various Maths tasks, with Felix & Cameron finishing 9th in their half of the draw and Hamish & Jamie 2nd in their half; the latter missing out on a prize by 1 point (180 against 179)!
However they didn’t have to wait long before claiming a victory. The morning of 20th June saw the UEA play host to the Mathematical Association Inter-Schools Quiz with 20 Norfolk schools taking part. This time the boys were a team of four and found themselves at the head of the leader board after the initial two rounds. A three-way final took place with Town Close comfortably running out winners.
Pictured are the four participants with their Book Tokens and Certificates. Very well done!
