Geography
Geography is taught to every pupil in the School. In the Prep Department it is in topics for pupils in Years 3 and 4 and subject based from Year 5 to 8.
By the end of the course, the pupils will have studied their immediate environment of the School, local area and contrasting localities further afield. The work, including field study trips, fosters an awareness and appreciation of the subject which carries them into secondary schooling and adult life. The teaching will cover various topics within the subject to give a broad base to build on.
By the conclusion of the course it should have:
- stimulated curiosity about the world
- introduced people, places and environments
- contributed to environmental awareness and sustainable development
- developed an understanding of the physical and human landscape, and introduced different societies and cultures and enhanced an awareness of global interdependence.
Pupils will have the ability to:
- use geographical enquiry skills when developing knowledge and understanding of people, places, patterns and processes, environmental awareness and sustainable development. - ask geographical questions and undertake enquiries inside and outside the classroom about people, places and environments.
- analyse evidence, make decisions and evaluate information, ideas and opinions.
- use skills specific to geography, including fieldwork and map work.
- draw on different sources and resources, such as maps and atlases, photographs, written and visual materials, including the use of ICT.
