Year 2 and Year 3 were entertained by The acting duo introduced the basics of the Dewey Library cataloguing system, in an amusing and comical play. They involved the children in short excerpts from famous plays. They told the story of the Odyssey by Homer; they acted out the witch’s scene from Shakespeare’s Macbeth with some excellent witches from the audience, and they demonstrated Charles Dickens’s Oliver Twist learning the art of picking pockets. There was an element of mystery in the play… with a rather spooky ending. The enthusiastic reactions and the animated responses of the audience confirmed it as a valuable and vivid experience; that encouraged the children to understand more about the joy of literature.
Year 2 Carol Singing
On Tuesday 15th December a group of year 2 children went carol singing at the end of the school day with their parents and teachers. Here we all are singing at one of the houses we visited on the Newmarket Road near the School.
Healthy Living
This half term Year 2 have been thinking about the ways they can stay healthy. They have been studying different foods and made their own healthy sandwiches, which they enjoyed at a special lunchtime picnic. They have looked at the origins of food and spent a morning at Easton College where they learned a lot about how our food is produced. Cleaning hands and keeping teeth clean for the tooth fairy all help to make this science topic useful and fun.
Ants
Year 2 have been creating parks for the local ant population. They thought long and hard about what activities would amuse the ants and then used natural materials to construct a really interesting environment. Later they made plans of the park, complete with a key, and finally they wrote exciting stories about the ants’ adventures in the parks.
All the ants had a wonderful time. Incidentally so did the children.
Laurel Lodge
In the week before Christmas Mrs. Lane’s Year 2 class went to visit the residents of Laurel Lodge Care Home. They sung a selection of Christmas carols and shared drinks and biscuits over a chat. The children had also taken a box of chocolate biscuits and made the residents a card.
Year 2 Learn About Sound
Year 2 have been learning about sounds and how far noises can carry. The children had to listen really carefully and stop when they could hear a sound. This outdoor lesson was a great success and stimulated lots of interesting discussion and well founded learning.
The Last Day Of Term
The last day of the Christmas term was fun filled. We began the morning with DT activities, the children had to design and make a party bag, able to hold a variety of small “goodies”. For lunch there was turkey and crackers for all. Later they all played party games, with lots of dancing and high spirits. The day ended on a quieter note with a music session, singing carols around the Christmas tree.
The Carol Service
The Pre-Prep went to the Parish church of Christchurch to share a service of traditional readings and carols. Year 2 created a tableau, lead the singing and recited poems. Patrick Richmond, Vicar of Christchurch, a frequent visitor in school assemblies delivered the Christmas message.
Year 2 - Fiddlesticks Assembly
The Pre-Prep were delighted to welcome the Year 2 cellists and violinists to their assembly. All the children were enthralled and most attentive and really enjoyed the performance.
Year 2 - Tooth Fairy
Year 2 have been thinking about how to look after their teeth in their science lessons. They have been sharing their findings with the tooth fairy. In their letters to the tooth fairy they show that they understand which foods will help their teeth to grow strong, which foods to avoid, and how important it is to visit the dentist regularly. They let their imagination run when they created their own special tooth fairy, using a variety of frills and sparkles; no two fairies look the same.
Year 2 - Builders At Work
Year 2 love to watch the builders at work. The cranes and diggers are working hard, and a man is studying the plans while the children discuss the progress and ask lots of questions. Year 2 are keeping a diary of the work. They have lots of photographs to remind them just how quickly the building is growing and how the view from their windows changes daily.
Year 2 Visit to Easton Farm College
Year 2 visited Easton Farm College as part of their topic about healthy living. They saw, first hand, how animals are reared and were able to watch many aspects of farm life. They could touch the calves although the deer were nervous and kept their distance. They were full of searching questions and came away with new knowledge and an understanding of where food comes from.
Year 2 Study A Range Of Habitats
The children in Year 2 study a range of habitats.
Recently they spent the day at West Runton investigating life in a rock pool.
After a traditional picnic there was also time to explore the beach for their own amusement and to build castles in the sand before the tide came in.
